Updates and Clarifications to Mechanic’s Lien Law: SB929 / HB4984 Signed into Law

The Texas Legislature passed SB929 (HB4984) on May 21, 2025, and Governor Abbott signed it into law the same day. This new law is effective immediately.

SB929 modifies the Texas Property Code to clarify mechanic’s lien deadlines. Previous versions of the mechanic’s lien statute were silent on what happens to the lien deadlines if the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday. With SB929, this question is now definitively answered: “the period is extended to include the next day that is not a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday.”
